Nadine Ogden
Director, Youth Choir
Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4: 4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Nadine Ogden became Director of the First Church Youth Choir in 2007, but she is not new to the First Church staff. She has served on staff for nearly 20 years, most recently as the Junior Choir Director. In Nadine’s words, her job responsibility is, “To glorify God and to share the love of Jesus Christ through music with children and youth.”
Nadine has felt the call to serve Christ for as long as she has known Him. “I made the choice when I was about 16 years old,” Nadine said. “I have served him in song since then.” Nadine began raising her family of four children nearly 30 years ago. Her love of music, children and the Lord came together, and inspired her to organize a small children’s choir at the church in Virginia she attended at the time. Nadine has been hooked ever since. “The desire to share the Lord’s message and Word through song grew within me,” she said.
In 1987, Nadine and her family moved to central Pennsylvania and soon after joined First Church. Two years later, she took a staff position as Director of Youth Ministry. A few years after that, the position for Junior Choir Director opened. Nadine offered to fill in until a permanent director was hired. Sixteen years later, Nadine was still directing the Junior Choir. She stepped down in 2008, and now directs the Youth Choir.
Nadine is an active community and church volunteer. She is a member and leader of Moms in Touch International – Cumberland County (prayer group), and serves as a counselor for church camps within the Central Pennsylvania Conference of The United Methodist Church. She always shares her sewing skills – a lost art today – with the church as opportunities arise.
Nadine and her husband, Michael, have four children.
Nadine’s Vision for the Music Ministry
To show children and youth how they can serve and glorify God through the gift of song at all times. To provide ways for children and youth to be filled with the Word of God through music.
