Director of Children’s Ministries

Kim Vensel joined the First Church staff as Director of Children’s Ministries in 2000. She is responsible for coordinating the church’s Christian education opportunities for children from birth through sixth grade. She oversees many programs to include Sunday School, worship childcare, Tween Fellowship and Vacation Bible School. Kim also recruits volunteers, and provides training and support for them, to carry out these programs.
Kim has extensive career experience as a clinical social worker, providing counseling for families and children, crisis intervention, and parent guidance/education. In the past, she worked for the Family Counseling Center of Tressler Lutheran Services in DuBois, Pa., the Dickinson Mental Health Center in Ridgeway, Pa., Mental Health Services of Southeastern Vermont, and Monadnock Family Services in New Hampshire.
Kim graduated Magna Cum Laude from Grove City College with degrees in psychology and social work. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Smith College in Massachusetts, and is a Pennsylvania-licensed social worker.
In addition to her duties at First Church, Kim and her family actively run a produce business. They raise and sell strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, corn, tomatoes and peaches. In the fall, “our yard turns orange as we sell pumpkins and other fall produce,” Kim said. “We also raise chickens, all of which have names.”
Kim has been a member of First Church since 1997.
Kim and her husband, Rick, are parents to three children.
Kim’s Vision for the Children’s Ministry:
To provide a safe, caring, inviting atmosphere to nurture the spiritual growth of children. To provide children, in partnership with their families, the opportunities to grow as disciples, fulfilling the church community’s promise to them at Baptism.
